Foreword and Disclaimer
This Internet guide is designed for the purchasing institution and its
branches. The online guide is not to be copied or distributed to any other
institution, entity, person, company or other institution owned by a holding
company.
It is the purpose of this guide to aid in the compliance of federal statutes
and/or regulations. State-specific guides are available for many states. Some
states do not have specific record retention laws for their state banks to
follow, therefore only the federal guide is needed.
The records listed have been researched by Financial Records Consultants by
referencing and quoting the statutes and regulations, and individual state
statutes and regulations. This guide is searchable and sectioned by department.
Great care has been taken to research all available information. This site is
designed to provide accurate and authoritative information in regard to the
subject matter covered. The information is made available posted with the
understanding the site, and authors of the content, are not engaged in
rendering legal, accounting or other professional service by providing this

Records Consultants for general informational purposes only. It does not
constitute legal advice and is presented without any representation or warranty
whatsoever, including as to the accuracy or completeness of the information.
Not all banking records have retention periods controlled by state or federal
government agencies. There are many laws that apply to the retention of bank
records. Many records are considered to be "under the umbrella" of very
specific records. Many records listed are internal records or records that will
apply as a by-product of a general record and not a specific law. When no law
is applicable, the common, safe and sound business practice in the industry is
recommended.
This online program is provided as a reference and organizational tool only. We
assume no liability for inadvertent errors or omissions. We assume no liability
for a customer's recordkeeping efforts or end result. It is the users'
responsibility to be sure that no retention periods are changed, raised or
lowered unless the institution's management has made its final approval. FRC
and/or James G. Jones do not recommend changes to the retention periods listed
herein and will not be held responsible for any changes to or repercussions
from unauthorized changes made to the contents of the record retention
schedule(s) a customer keeps in-house.
By purchasing this internet guide, the purchaser agrees that the log-in and

and is not to be distributed in any way to any other company or person,
including banks, bank holding company members, credit unions or members of a
credit union, savings banks, savings associations, state bankers associations
or members of a state bankers association.
